Foresteria La Merlina is an idea inspired by Marco and Luciana’s desire to face a job challenge. With their past as owners of one of the most influential  delicatessen in Tortona, and well rooted in the Italian gastronomic panorama, they decided that it was time for them to go back to their origins, in that area nestled between Val Curone and Val Borbera.

Thanks to the precious work to recover a Seventies abandoned villa (the  renovations lasted 6 years), in 2006 one of the most dynamic  realities of the entire touristic panorama in West Piedmont, located in one of the most spectacular spots of the entire area, was born.

On the  Giarolo Mountain slopes, located between the Curone Valley and  the  Borbera Valley, with a breathtaking view  over the Tortona hills, Foresteria La Merlina  is the ideal place from where you can start exploring the surroundings, reachable both on foot or by the latest model mountain bikes available on site. You can relax by the swimming pool sipping a cocktail, admiring  the sunset.

In the quiet restaurant with thirty seats, you can taste all the best products that our territory offers. The ingredients come from a rigorously short supply chain, exclusively from the Foresteria vegetable garden and farm and from selected local agricultural farms.

Trout Carbonara

A tagliolino expertly created by Luciana's hands meets an exciting sauce created by Marco, all to create a unique flavor for a special recipe. A mix of earth and water, balanced by an egg that binds what could never be encountered in nature.

Low temperature egg with Montebore and porcini mushrooms

An egg steamed for the right amount of time for the egg white to take shape, enclosing a warm and enveloping yolk. Here in the Foresteria we always recommend tasting it by sinking the spoon, fishing in one stroke the mushrooms lying on the bottom, the frame of Montebore fondue and the egg heart.

Stuffed Chicken

A typical dish of the Genoese culinary tradition. Organic homegrown meat, stuffed with breadcrumbs, Parmigiano Reggiano, sausage from our farm, eggs, peas and carrots.

Berries Cappuccino

A frothy yogurt cream made in our kitchen, which acts as an altar to unique berries from Val Borbera and Val Curone, with a fragrant strawberry from Tortona to seal the bond with a beautiful city like ancient Derthona, where are our origins.
